The Thirteenth Annual Jonathan B. Loden Golf Tournament
September 27, 2019
What a difference a year makes.... Friday, September 27, 2019 was a picture-perfect day. It was a wonderful backdrop for an amazing day of golf at Turf Valley Country Club in Ellicott City, Maryland.
As usual, kudos to our amazing volunteers...a big thank you to Sandy Cornelius, our volunteer coordinator. Also, Gale Clark, Barbara Derwart, Janice Bloodsworth, Jen Trenary Todd, Vicky Norton, Ann Todd, Amanda Carter and Nicole Dulaney. A newcomer this year was Dave Snyder, a good addition to the registration line.
Another was, Ashley Fennig, her first time here as part of the Hopkins team. I think that she enjoyed our latest fun hole called Hot Shot, where the golfers got to use an air gun to drive their ball. It was a huge success, the golfers loved it! A huge shout out goes to Amber Baker. Not only is she our resident photographer, she also makes all the hilarious costumes for our “wig and skirt” hole!
Last, but certainly not least, is Dr. Arlene Forastiere, Jonathan’s oncologist from Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center. She makes the decision as to which researcher will receive our gift of the funds raised this year. Dr.Forastiere has been coming to the tournament and volunteering for years. Additionally, she presents us with an update on the latest research at the awards ceremony. The news is encouraging that people are finally learning that children need to be immunized against the HPV virus!
And, finally, the winners this year:
Turf Valley has informed us that they are closing their courses to tournaments for the next two years to do some course updating! We are pleased to announce that we already have another venue for next year. The Fourteenth Annual Jonathan B. Loden Golf Tournament will be held at The Links of Challedon in Mount Airy, Maryland on October 9, 2020! We have moved the registration and tournament start time to 9am and 10am respectively.
We are forever grateful to the golfers who have supported our tournament and Jonathan’s legacy over the years. See you next year at Challedon!
