The Fourth Annual Jonathan B. Loden Memorial Golf Tournament- September 25, 2009
The Fourth Annual Jonathan B. Loden Golf Tournament was held on Friday, September 25th, 2009 at Turf Valley Country Club in Ellicott City, Maryland, and was the most successful one to date!
Memories were still fresh from the rain postponement of last year’s original September tournament date…it was rescheduled for October of ‘08 and the weather had turned windy and cold….not conducive to great golfing. The weathermen were predicting a beautiful, sunny, day for us this year…and to our horror, it was cloudy and drizzling when the sun came up the morning of the 25th! It took a bit of creative thinking to keep the volunteers and golfers at least semi-dry during registration...but we all managed just fine and our reward, eventually, when the sun came out, was a perfect day for golf!
The Loden family would like to thank all of the golfers, most of whom come back year after year from far and wide to help our cause and honor Jonathan’s memory. They come from Florida, Iowa, Texas, Virginia, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania in addition to Maryland…amazing! We are lucky, as well, to have friends who volunteer, many of whom work behind the scenes for months before the actual tournament day…Sandy Cornelius (who could not be with us on September 25th, but will be back next year), Courtney and Chip Spencer, Janice Trenary, Jen Trenary, Michele Mursch, Judy Haarer, Vicky Norton, Sherry Phillips, and Robbie Blattau.
Felicia Farace, another repeat volunteer, is always creative with new ideas to raise money for Jonathan’s foundation. This year she raffled off 30 workout sessions at Fitness Together, a one-on one workout center in Ellicott City where she is the manager for owner Rob Coombs. This year she raised $1000.00! Some of Felicia’s generous friends and clients are Bette Dolan, Judy McGovern, Bruce Grant, Susan Bach, Joan Schnorf and Jackie Arnold.
Jay Kelly, of Signs by Tomorrow in Columbia, Md., once again donated all of our signage. Jay, who went to middle school with Jonathan, saw an article in the local paper about the tournament last year and called to volunteer his services. Other local businesses who are an asset to our foundation are Bare Bones Restaurant, Cacao Lane Restaurant in downtown Ellicott City, and A Choice Nanny, a nanny referral service in Columbia.
Winners:
1st Place Team: With a score of 56, was Rob Bouthner, Bryan Bouthner, and Brian Herring. Congratulations to the winners, who apparently did not even need a foursome to win!
2nd Place Team: Tiger’s Poor White Cousins, scored a 58 and took second place. Dick Lombardo and sons Brian and Andy, and Justin Garwood make up the team. Possibly, Tiger has given his cousins a few pointers because they always are in the money at Jonathan’s tournament!
We like to give a prize for the average golfer..this year's winner...
“Middle Team”: scored a 68…and consisted of Bill Casey, John Dinardo, Rick Iapicca, and Richard Kinley, all of the HMSHost Corporation, Team One.
Last Place: but first in our hearts, went to Team Igoe-Dennis and Sandy Igoe, their daughter Erin, and Mike Groseth.
Congratulations and thank you to all of our winners!
