The Eighth Annual Jonathan B. Loden Tournament – September 20, 2013 - Not Exactly
The 8th Annual Jonathan B. Loden Tournament was scheduled to be held on September 20, 2013. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. Turf Valley was placed in a very difficult position with respect to a timeline to complete some very important construction on some gas lines going through their property. Here is an excerpt of a message they released regarding the situation...
"As some of you may be aware, due to circumstances beyond our control, the existing Gas Line going through Turf Valley's property is in need of replacing. The work has already started over the existing gas line (with staking/marking of the property). We are working with Columbia Gas and their subsidiaries to have the least amount of impact on our golf course as possible. This pipeline goes through the following areas: #1, #5, #6, #7, #9, #12, #14, #17 (all on the Original), the parking lots, driving range, and the tennis courts. The pipeline goes directly through #17 green, and will affect this green into the spring of next golf season. It is our hope that this work can be done as quickly as possible with minimal interference. Course conditions on the Original will change daily and we will have to operate under the assumption we will not have 18 holes to play on the original through 10/31. Columbia Gas has a timeframe to meet due to the limits of their permitting that currently expires on October 31st. It is anticipated the work will be completed in 8 weeks."
This construction rendered the course unplayable and ALL tournaments were cancelled at Turf Valley during the construction period. All possible alternatives and options for a tournament this year were researched and every one of them came up empty. Despite there being no tournament in 2013, due to the generosity of many of the golf participants, the JBL Foundation was able to donate $7,500 to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
We hope to see EVERYONE back in 2014 for the 8th Annual Jonathan B. Loden Memorial Tournament.
